ENVIRONMENT

Mining activities, including prospecting, exploration, construction, operation, maintenance, expansion, abandonment, decommissioning and repurposing of a mine can impact environmental systems in a range of negative, and direct and indirect ways. As NORMA we work with the mining community to reduce these effects.

Mining is an industry of strategic importance in Norton. There are roughly 5 major minerals currently being mined in Norton Constituency and these are platinum, gold, rhodium, nickel and quarry. These minerals contribute greatly to the constituency's gross product and employment.

Major Mining Companies in Norton

Zimplats’ business is production of platinum group and associated metals from the Great Dyke in Zimbabwe. The Darwendale platinum project is an underground platinum group metals (PGM) mining development located in the Great Dyke area of Zimbabwe, 20km west of Norton town. It is considered to be one of the biggest PGM deposits in the world.

Miners Safety & Health

We work with our association members to ensure that mine workers health and safety are of great importance. We hold Health and Safety workshops every quarter. We encourage the use of behavior based initiatives and adoption of proven technology, to reducing the exposure of mine employees and artisanal miners to a hazardous work environment.
